Chris Laforet
Chris began his Youth Ministry journey when he was a parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Parish in Tecumseh. He was just a teenager then, and it was during that time, after experiencing a COR Retreat weekend, that his relationship with Christ really started to flourish.
By the end of high school, Chris was determined to continue his faith journey so off he went to the University of Windsor where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Canadian Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies, and a Certificate in Pastoral Ministry. He later went on to earn his Bachelor of Education degree as well as a Masters of Religious Studies. During his time at the University of Windsor, Chris was also involved in the Windsor Campus Ministry Team.
Chris initially began at Sacred Heart Parish in Lasalle as the Coordinator of Youth Ministry in 2006. In 2018, Chris joined Good Shepherd Parish and is excited to partner with us as we build disciples who are building disciples.
Katherine Marsh
Miss Katherine is our family of parishes Coordinator for Grade School Ministry. Did you know that in our family of parishes we have 13 elementary schools in our region? Five of those schools are with the English school board (WEDCSB) and 8 are with the French school board (cscprovidence)
Katherine went to school at the University of Waterloo for her undergrad in Religious Studies, spend some time (years) in 3 different religious communities in the USA (two apostolic/contemplative and one cloistered) earned her teaching Post-Baac from the University of Eastern Michigan, taught 1st, 3rd and 4th grades before returning to Canada and working in the Diocese of London for the last 8 years. (At Visitation in Comber, St. Francis Xaiver in Tilbury, and St. Peter's in Jeannettes Creek and now for the Windsor-Lake St. Clair CFP) She is bilingual (French and English) thanks to the foresight of her parents putting her in French Immersion. (Though she thinks her French could still use some work).
Upon coming back to Canada, she settled into the idea that she simply had "a weird vocation". It wasn't to Religious Life, and yet she knew that Jesus had called her heart to belong only to Him. Later she discovered a little-known vocation in the Catholic Church to Secular Institutes - that like Religious Institutes profess vows of celibate chastity, poverty and obedience but unlike Religious Life, live completely immersed in the world (often somewhat hidden) working in the communities in which they live without outward distinction. She is happy to call the Secular Institute of St. Francis De Sales her home. She is most happy to speak to anyone about vocations, in addition to her Grade School Ministry.
Krista Abdel Sater
Hi everyone! I’m Krista Abdel Sater. I moved here from Lebanon a little over a year ago and quickly became involved in the Catholic community at my high school, St. Anne’s. Amidst all the culture shock and unfamiliarities I was facing, I found comfort in participating in in-person and virtual masses as well as volunteering at St. Anne’s church. Doing so not only helped me find something familiar in a foreign country but also a supportive friend group that practices the same values I do. I’m both excited and honored to serve this special family of parishes as the Youth Ministry Assistant by organizing informative and fun youth groups that meet everyone’s individual wants and needs. I’m looking forward to meeting and collaborating with the rest of the team very soon!
